Steven J. Henshilwood, 70 of Plainfield, passed away on March 23, 2024. He was born on October 17, 1953 in Indianapolis to the late Laura Marie (Richards) and Alfred James “Woody” Henshilwood. Steve graduated from Plainfield High School in 1972. He was honorably discharged from the Army National Guard in 1975. He was a foundry worker for the former International Harvester/Navistar for 25 years retiring in 1991. Steve was associated with both Hazelwood Christian Church and Hope Presbyterian Church. He was an avid coin collector, loved classic cars, and was a major “foodie”. The phrase “Eat to live” did not apply to him. He “lived to eat” and especially junk food. Steve was someone who was always willing to help others. He volunteered his time helping the needy. He was the “Easter Bunny” and “Santa Claus” for several years at public events. He loved children and helping the elderly. His greatest love was for his family and the Lord, and was always there when needed. Most recently, he befriended many of the residents that shared his nursing facility. Outsiders thought he was a visitor, not a resident, because he was always visiting and talking to people.
Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Kelly Ann (Wilkerson) Henshilwood of Plainfield; children, Haley (Chris) Summers, Laura Henshilwood, Jason (Annette) Henshilwood; siblings, Janice Cherry, Sue (Roger) Shroeder, Joyce Hofmann, Marsha (Ron) McQueeney, Sharon Kirk, Mike Henshilwood, Martha (Mike) Talbott; grandchildren (his greatest joy), Hannah Gastineau, Jacob Gastineau, Grace Summers (Dillon Glawson), Jaxson Cassel, Vivienne Cassel, Liam Cassel, Daniela Henshilwood, Makenzie Henshilwood; and great grandson, Silas Parsons. Several Nieces and Nephews. His parents and brothers, Walter “Tiny” Ferguson and William Henshilwood, preceded him in death. A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, April 6, 2024 from 1p.m.-4p.m in the fellowship hall of Hazelwood Christian Church, 9947 S. County Road 0, Clayton, IN 46118.
