Shirley L. Gibbs, 81 of Danville, passed away May 29, 2020. She was born on February 19, 1939 in Cambridge, Massachusetts to the late Raymond James and Phyllis Harvey Marquess. Shirley married James Gordon Gibbs, Jr. on July 28, 1961 in Danville. She earned a Bachelor’s degree from Ball State University. She was a homemaker and involved in her community. Shirley served as a State Delegate, a former president of Tri Kappa Sorority. Shirley was dedicated mother and grandmother. She was an excellent caregiver to many loved ones and pets. Shirley always put the needs of those she loved in front of her own. Shirley enjoyed gardening and was an excellent cook. Shirley took the time to enjoy the beauty in nature and life and always took notice of the little things we tend to overlook. Survivors include her husband of 58 years, James Gordon Gibbs Jr. “Jay” Gibbs; sons, James Gordon Gibbs III “Jamie” and his wife, Janine of St. Petersburg, FL, Justin G. Gibbs of Plainfield; daughter, Paula R. Schmidt and her husband, George of Plainfield; sister, Carol Ann Wheelock of Nashville, TN; grandchildren, Katherine Hinkle, Jessica Hinkle, Leanne Hinkle, Isabella Schmidt, Aubree Gibbs, Lainey Gibbs and great granddaughter, Ezlyn Hinkle. Her parents, brothers, James Marquess, Steve Marquess and daughter, Bethany J. Bradshaw, preceded her in death. A memorial service will be held at 4:00 pm on Saturday, June 06, 2020 in Baker Funeral Home, Danville, with visitation from 2:00 pm until the service in the funeral home.
