Shirley Nan (Fields) Dalton, passed away peacefully, July 14, 2023, at The Waters of Greencastle, surrounded by her beloved caregivers.
Shirley was born in Plainfield, Indiana, to Daniel and Marguerite (Willis) Fields, April 16, 1935. She attended school, lived and worked in Plainfield until she married Jack M. Dalton, July 8, 1960, at which time they moved to Terre Haute, Indiana. They lived there until 1977 when they moved to Greencastle, Indiana.
Shirley was an exceptional wife, mother and grandmother. She cared deeply for her family, but it was well known her second love was her animals, particularly her dogs. Shirley was never without an animal in her home. She has even been known to take in and try to save baby bunny rabbits that had been abandoned by their mothers.
Shirley was an accomplished artist and produced many beautiful porcelain products in her lifetime. Along with her artistry she was a talented beautician. She had an eye for beauty and she portrayed that not only physically but socially. Shirley was also a long-time member of Kappa Delta Phi a philanthropic organization that helps the underserved children.
Shirley is survived by, her husband Jack, Son Wes Lambert (Madonna), Granddaughter Kristy (Lambert) Mardis (Kyle), 3 Great grandchildren, Evan Lambert, Harrison Mardis and William Mardis.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents and her adopted brother Paul Spaulding and grandson, Brooke Lambert.
A visitation will be held in Greencastle, at Bittles and Hurt Funeral Home, Wednesday July 19, 2023 from 4 P.M to 7P.M. An additional visitation will be held In Plainfield, IN, at Maple Hill Cemetery Chapel on Thursday July 20, 2023 from 12 noon until 1P the time of service.
In lieu of floral contributions the family in requesting any memorial contributions be made to IU Research for Alzheimer’s. Those donations can be mailed to I U Research for Alzheimer’s, Office of Gift and Development, PO Box 7072, Indianapolis, IN 46207-7072.
