Seth Bernard Lewis, 80, of Danville, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 9th, 2021, after an eighteen month battle with cancer. Seth, the oldest of four children was born to the late William B. Lewis and Anna Margaret (Daringer) Lewis on October 19, 1940 in Indianapolis. During his high school years, his family relocated to Warsaw, IN, where he graduated in 1957 from Warsaw High School. Upon graduation, he attended Butler University where he was a member of Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity and was the captain of the debate team for the university, which won the college national championship.
After earning his undergraduate degree at Butler, he attended Notre Dame Law School and Indiana University School of Law, where he received his Doctor of Jurisprudence degree in 1966. He was admitted to the Indiana State Bar in May of 1966 and began practicing law in Danville, IN, where he maintained a practice for over 55 years. During his legal career, he was both in private practice and was elected to the office of Hendricks County Prosecutor, serving two terms. He was a member of the Hendricks County Bar Association and the Indiana Bar Association. He was an avid sports fan, enjoying baseball, football, golf, basketball, and auto racing. One of his fondest memories he would share was his first trip to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway at 8 years old with his father.
He is survived by his six children, Jennifer Milnes (Vincent), Betsy Bennett, Andy Lewis, Carrie Klute (Derek), Emily Cordova (Patrick), and Katie Pentek (Mike), as well as his sisters, Clare Troy and Cynthia Ballantyne. In addition, he is survived by his 6 grandchildren, Shannon Richardson (Ryan), Mikki Klute, Mason Phillips, Collin Phillips, Nicholas Pentek, Emma Pentek and a great-grandson, Lincoln Richardson. He is also survived by nine nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his sister Susan Lewis Patrick.
A private mass of Christian Burial will be held at Mary Queen of Peace in Danville, IN. Arrangements have been entrusted to Baker Funeral Home in Danville, IN.
The family wishes to express thanks to the medical team at Hendricks Regional Health in Danville, especially all the nurses in the IV Unit. Thank you to the many caregivers who helped Seth and family along the way at Sugar Grove Senior Living in Plainfield. And a special thank you to the amazing nurses and nurses aides of Plainfield Health Care, along with Kindred Hospice, as well, who all provided amazing end of life care.
