Paul Joseph Tucker “Joe", 80 of Plainfield, passed away on July 10, 2023. He was born on February 14, 1943 in Indianapolis to the late Henry Paul and Mary (Nicholson) Tucker. He married Mary Beth Helms on December 18, 1965 in Shawnee Mission, Kansas, and she preceded him in death on March 21, 2005. Paul was a 1961 graduate of Danville High School, received his bachelor’s degree from Olivet Nazarene University, and his master’s degree from Indiana University in Bloomington. He was a social worker MSW, LCSW for the State of Indiana for nearly 40 years, retiring in 2005. Paul was dedicated to the Mental Health Association, and worked with at risk youth and adults suffering with addictions issues. Paul and his wife conducted youth groups in the Nazarene church before attending the Community Church of Greenwood. His hobbies included photography and cycling. Paul enjoyed flying, and had an active pilot's license for many years. He also enjoyed keeping in touch with his fellow DHS classmates and would meet regularly at the Mayberry Café in Danville. Paul was affectionately known as “Grandpa Joe" to many in the community and was the unofficial sports photographer for Cascade High School. Survivors include his children, John B. (Jody) Tucker of Mooresville, Amy E. (Brodrick) Gaines of Muncie; 4 grandchildren, Nyah and Elijah Gaines, Henry and Mary Tucker; and his sister-in-law, Anna Tucker of Florida. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and brother, Thomas Tucker. Services will be at 12:00 noon on Monday, July 17, 2023 in Baker Funeral Home, Danville, with burial to follow in the Danville South Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10:00 am until the service time in the funeral home.
