Paul George Leondis, 93 of Danville, passed away September 17, 2021. He was born in Evanston, Illinois, at St. Francis Hospital, on April 30, 1928. He attended Eugene Field School in Chicago, kindergarten through eighth grade, and then Sullivan High School until transferring to Niles Township High School where he graduated in January 1946. He served in the U.S. Navy from February 1946 to January 1948. He entered Loyola University in Chicago in September 1948 where he met the love of his life, Mary Celeste Walker. They married upon his graduation when he earned a Bachelors’ Degree in Biology and Chemistry, May 1952. He was accepted into the school of veterinarian medicine at the University of Illinois in the fall of 1952, and received a Doctorate of Veterinarian Medicine in May 1956. During 1955 and 1956 while he attended the University of Illinois, he traveled to Danville, Indiana during the weekends and summers to work at the Danville and Stilesville veterinarian clinics with Dr. Garth Keller. He also relocated his wife and two children to Danville during this time and eventually began working fulltime at the clinics. In 1957 he purchased the Danville Veterinarian Clinic and did not retire until the age of 85, in 2013, after a career of 58 years as a veterinarian in Danville, Indiana. He loved to work in his flower gardens of roses, azaleas, and peonies. He also loved vegetable gardening. He enjoyed family and friends in the community stopping by to visit on the deck of his home. Most of all, he adored his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Survivors include his children, Mary Tomkowiak (Frank), Patty Jensen, Alex Leondis (Linda), Cathy Bales (Steve), Helen Corbitt (Mike), Theresa Newberry (David), Jeannie Vincent (Joe); 18 grandchildren (1 predeceased), and 29 great grandchildren; several loving nieces and nephews; and his brother, Alex F, Leondis (Marny). A funeral mass will be held at 10:00 am with a rosary being said at 9:00 am, at Mary Queen of Peace Church, Danville, Indiana, Friday, September 24, and public visitation from 3:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Baker Funeral Home, Danville, Indiana, Thursday, September 23.
