Orville W. Rees Jr.

Orville Rees Jr. passed away at 93 on November 16, 2023 in Plainfield, IN.  He was born on September 4, 1930 in Port-of-Spain, Trinidad to the late Orville W. and Ruby I. Rees. He graduated from Churubusco High School in 1948 and went on to Olivet Nazarene College where he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in education, and later on a master’s degree from Butler University.  At Olivet, Orville met his bride, Wilma; they celebrated their 73rd wedding anniversary this past March.  

Professionally, Orville taught for Wayne Township schools, IPS, and served as a principal for School 86, Steven Decatur School, and Valley Mills Elementary. Orville also worked for Broadway United Church and Metropolitan United in Detroit, MI.   

After retirement, Orville was a math instructor at Ivy Tech College and an Expulsion Examiner for Wayne township schools.   Later, he served several years as a volunteer for Hendricks Regional health as a chaplain’s assistant and volunteered for the church serving communion to older people who couldn’t attend church.  He always stayed active walking, and then later riding his stationary bike 5 miles a day while reading.   

Orville’s faith and involvement in the church was extremely important to him.  He served at church in multiple capacities by teaching young adult Sunday school classes, administrative board chairman, pastor-parish committee chairman, and was involved in the shepherding program for the church.   Most recently, he was a faithful member of Plainfield Christian Church where he found a valuable community in this stage of his life.  

Orville leaves behind his precious wife Wilma, his son, Mike Rees of Danville IN, his daughter-in-law Patty Rees, his 5 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews that loved him dearly.   He is preceded in death by his parents, his son Steven Rees, his three sisters, and two grandsons.  

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday November 21, 2023 at 2 P.M. at the Plainfield Christian Church with Rev. Luke Proctor officiating.  Visitation will be held 2 hours prior to the services in the church.
