Melvin H. Zoiss, 86 of Plainfield, passed away September 18, 2020 in his residence. He was born on February 19, 1934 in Chicago, Illinois, to the late Joseph and Theresa (Hoffman) Zoiss. He married Geraldine Glombicki on October 25, 1957 in Chicago. Melvin received a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from Illinois Institute of Technology and worked in metallurgy then, later, in Marketing. He held a number of patents for inventions and received some significant industry awards. He also developed a computer model to accurately predict the price behavior of competitors for closed bid auctions and then an econometric model to predict company sales within 5%. He twice lectured audiences at the International Hotel in Geneva Switzerland on pricing strategies and traveled to Japan, Germany, France, England, Monaco and more. He was a family man, devoted to his grandchildren and an avid fisherman. Survivors include his wife of almost 63 years, Geraldine Zoiss of Plainfield; sons, Mike (Maggie) Zoiss of Carmel, Mark (Janice) Zoiss, Marty (Michele) Zoiss, both of Avon; and 4 grandchildren, Ben, Amanda, Adam and Noah. His parents and brothers, Joe, Bob and Ed Zoiss, preceded him in death. A memorial mass will be held at a later date. Hall-Baker Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
