Mary Elizabeth (Alexander) Gregson died June 5, 2019. She was born February 4, 1919 in Indianapolis to Jesse Lee and Bonnie (Chenoweth) Alexander. The family moved to their farm south of Stilesville when she was four.
Mary attended the Stilesville elementary school and graduated from Eminence High School in 1937. She was a graduate of the former Central Normal College in Danville and received her master’s degree from Butler University. Mary spent 32 years as a teacher retiring in 1984 from the Plainfield Schools. She also taught at Hazelwood, Forest, Hagerstown, Amo and Frankfort.
Mary was a member of the Plainfield Christian Church where she had taught Sunday school. She also was a member of the Hendricks County and Indiana Retired Teacher’s Associations and a 50 year member of Beta Chapter of Delta Sigma Kappa Sorority.
On June 26, 1954 she married Gaylord E. Gregson who preceded her in death in 2000. Her parents and brother, William Thomas Alexander, also preceded her in death. Survivors include her daughters, Beth Gregson (Bob Marks), Ann Gregson, Amy Gregson, Julie Gregson, Emily Marchand (Norris); grandsons, Joseph Gregson Marchand, Teddy Allen Marchand and step grandson, Norris Anthony Marchand III. Services will be at 1:00 pm on Monday, June 10, 2019 in Hall-Baker Funeral Home, Plainfield, with burial to follow in Stilesville Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11:00 am until the service in the funeral home.
