Martha Eleanor Wills of Danville, IN passed away Tuesday, April 13, 2021 at the Avon Health & Rehabilitation Center. She was born September 23, 1921 in Cambridge City, Indiana. She attended grade school in New Castle, IN and graduated with honors in 1938 from Arsenal Technical High School, Indianapolis, IN. Eleanor attended Butler University from 1938 to 1941. On April 26, 1942 she married Cliff Wills of New Castle, IN. She was a member of the Danville United Methodist Church.
During World War II, Eleanor worked for the Radio Corporation of America as a switchboard operator and in the Government Contracts Office. She returned to Butler University, graduating Cum Laude, with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education in 1960 and a Master of Science Degree in 1968. Eleanor taught fifth grade for Danville Community Schools from 1960 to 1981. She and Cliff enjoyed wintering in Florida and traveling in their motorhome. Playing golf, both in Florida and at the Plainfield Elks Club, was a favorite past time. During her retirement Eleanor was a classroom volunteer for the Danville South Elementary school teachers.
Eleanor was an avid Bridge and Euchre player. She was a member of Delta Delta Delta Sorority, Phi Kappa Phi National Scholastic Honorary, Delta Kappa Gamma Professional Society of Women Educators, the Danville Tri Kappa service sorority, Order of Eastern Star, Philomathean Club and the Hendricks County Retired Teachers Association.
Eleanor was preceded in death by her husband, Cliff (1992), her mother, Louise Morris, her stepfather, Chauncey Morris, and her sister, Betty Dameron. She is survived by her two children, Tom Wills (Nancy) of West Lafayette, IN and Nancy Martin (Jeff) of Danville, IN. She is survived by five grandchildren: Brent Wills (Rondell) of West Lafayette, IN; Harold Jeffrey Martin IV (April) of Colorado Springs, CO; Ryan Wills (Lisa), of LaGrange Park, IL; Claire Nordstrom (Erik) of Snoqualmie, WA and Emily Eubank (Rocky) of North Salem, IN. Also surviving are seven great-grandchildren and two step-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be conducted at 1:00 PM on Monday, April 19, 2021 at South Mound Cemetery, New Castle, IN. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Danville United Methodist Church “Shared Blessings” Food Bank, 820 W Mill St, Danville, IN 46122
