Obituary

Leroy Moyer, age 76 of Fishers, IN, passed away on January 29, 2022 in his residence surrounded by family.  He was born on October 22, 1945 in Valley View, Pennsylvania to the late Clyde Moyer and Dorothy Carl.  Lee received his bachelor’s degree from Pennsylvania State University and his master’s degree from Indiana University of Pennsylvania.  He is survived by his wife, Sharon Moyer, whom he married on October 23, 2004 in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee after the passing of his first wife, Meriam Moyer, in 2002.  He was a 7th grade social studies teacher for 32 years at William Henry Middle School and Central Middle School, both in Dover, Delaware, where he gained lifelong friends, and was so proud of the accomplishments of his many favorite students. He always said “I never got out of the 7th grade”; one of his countless bad “dad” jokes that he enjoyed telling us over and over again.   Lee enjoyed nothing more than watching Philadelphia and Penn State sports. He was always generous and became a “professional online shopper” after he retired - those who knew him well often received unannounced packages just because he thought of them.  Services will be held at a later date at Torbert Funeral Home in Dover, Delaware. Burial will take place in Sharon Hill Cemetery, Dover, Delaware.  Survivors include: his wife Sharon Robison Moyer.  Daughters: Shoshannah (Mike) Gabbert, Jenica (Will) Stroock, Petra (Keith) Betterton. Stepdaughters: Melissa (Cameron) Gray and Melinda (Chris) Rito.  Sisters: Rose (Willis) Morgan, Donna Schwartz and Cindy (Eric) Bernd.  Grandchildren: Meriam, Lillianna and Ella Stroock, Emelia, Terra and Selene Gabbert, Jordan and Jesse Gray, Victoria (Travis) Reynolds, Angelina Rito, Tyler Wise, Julia Rito, Olivia Rito and Benjamin Rito.  Elmo, his very large Chow mix who passed away in 2004; Zoey, his sweet cat who passed away in November 2021, and his remaining devil cat, Nikki, who will live forever.    In lieu of flowers, please consider making memorial contributions in Leroy’s memory to: Congregation B'nai Jacob, Phoenixville, PA: https://www.congbj.org/, Congregation Knesseth Israel -  Religious School Fund, Bound Brook, NJ: http://www.ckibbnj.org/, and/or to the Penn State University Childhood Cancer Thon, https://donate.thon.org  Hall-Baker Funeral Home, Plainfield is handling local arrangements.  Please visit www.bakerfuneralservice.com to leave the family a condolence.
