Juanita Mae (Evans) Cody, age 97 of Danville, passed away on May 23, 2020.
Juanita was born March 6, 1923, in Indianapolis, to parents Russell A. and Mabel I. (Hamilton) Jennings. She was the widow of Wilfred (Bill) Cody. Juanita graduated from Pike High School in 1940, attended Butler University for 1 year, and was a 1944 graduate of Methodist School of Nursing. Her first employment was at Methodist Hospital as assistant head nurse for 10 months before being called to Ft Knox Army Base in Kentucky in 1945. She was honorably discharged with rank of 1st Lieutenant in the US Army Nurse Corps in December 1946.
She married Harry Hawk Evans January 20, 1947 and divorced December 20, 1948. They had one child, Gomer Joe Evans on December 3, 1947. She married Jack Warren October 24, 1985 deceased 1993. She then married Wilfred (Bill) Cody November 19, 1994 deceased 2000.
Juanita was employed at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, working in supervision, nursing, and hospital administration for 33 years retiring in 1985. She was a member of Methodist Hospital Nursing Alumni Association. She belonged to the Woodland Pikers and later changed to Eagle Creek Homemakers of Marion County for 10 years. She volunteered as an assistant to Jane Conder, first grade teacher, at North Elementary School in Danville for 9 years. A member of Pleasant View Church in Lebanon, IN since 2009, she was co-pianist for the church until 2015.
Survived by son, Gomer Joe (Rita) Evans of Danville; grandchildren, Thomas R. (Davina) Evans of Brownsburg and Tiffany R. (Joe) Jones of Florence, KY.; great grandchildren, Faith, Eowyn, Sadie Mae, and Dietrich.
Family and friends are invited to gather at Baker Funeral Home of Danville for visitation Friday, May 29, 2020, from 10a.m.-12 p.m. with funeral to follow with Pastor Tom Evans officiating. A private committal service will be held later at Bethel Cemetery in Indianapolis. Memorial contributions can be made to Pleasant View Church in Lebanon 5295 W SR 32 Lebanon, IN 46052.
