Obituary

Joseph K. Saddler, 65, of Danville, passed away on September 08, 2022, surrounded by family.  He was born on July 21, 1957 in Tell City, Indiana, to the late Paul K. and Dorothy (Evrard) Saddler.  Joe married Robin J. Smith on September 29, 1989 in Indianapolis, and was a beloved father to their son Matthew.  Joe graduated from Danville High School in 1975, receiving his Bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Indiana State University and his Master of Education degree from DePauw University.  He was a member of ISU’s Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity.  

An educator for nearly four decades, Mr. Saddler or “Coach” as he was affectionately known by many, was a 6th grade middle school teacher at Plainfield Community School Corporation for 36 years, as well as a Plainfield head football and baseball coach.  Following his retirement from teaching, Joe was motivated to continue helping others, working at Hendricks Regional Health Hospital for five years.  Joe was a member of Mary Queen of Peace Catholic Church, serving as an altar boy in his youth and a Eucharistic Minister for many years as an adult.  Joe enjoyed all sports, but especially baseball, football, and golf.  Joe loved nature, music, birds, gardening, working in his yard, summers of  “Leedy” ball in the park, family trips to Siesta Key, and especially spending time with his family and friends.     

Survivors include his wife of 33 years, Robin Saddler of Danville; son, Matthew J. Saddler (fiancé Claire Williams) of Chicago, IL.; sister, Mary (Ron) Monts of Danville; sister-in-law, Jan Saddler of Indianapolis; brother-in-law, Gary R. (Judi) Smith of Carmel; Nephew, Ryan (Carrie) Monts; Niece, Megan (Jeff) Sankey; Niece, Rachael (Kurt) Walden; Step-Nephew, Nick (Sara) Kraft; and many great nieces and nephews.  His parents and brother, Paul Saddler, preceded him in death. 

Visitation will be from 4:00-8:00 pm on Friday, September 23, 2022 at Baker Funeral Home in Danville.  A funeral mass will be held at 12:00 noon on Saturday, September 24, 2022 at Mary Queen of Peace Catholic Church, Danville, with visitation one hour prior to the mass in the church.  In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Mary Queen of Peace Catholic Church, Danville, Indiana or the Glioblastomafoundation.org  Baker Funeral Home, Danville is handling arrangements.
