Obituary

Joseph (Joe) A. Stephens, 82 of Danville, passed away May 04, 2021.  He was born on November 03, 1938 in Indianapolis, Indiana, to the late Emmett E. and Josephine L. (Poer) Stephens.  Joe was married to Donna Jean (Gibbons) Stephens for 46 wonderful years and she preceded him in death on August 06, 2013.  He worked for General Motors for over 40 years.  Throughout his life, Joe was an active member of both the Danville Christian Church and the Hazelwood Christian Church.  He was also a proud veteran of the United States Army.  Joe was a 60 year member of the Western Star Masonic Lodge #26 F & AM and a 55 year member of the Scottish Rite Masons.  He also served on the Hendricks County Sheriff’s Merit Board during Roy Waddell’s terms and was very active with the Danville Little League baseball organization.  Survivors include his children, Gary Gleason (Chris) of Florida, Patty Smoot (Kevin) of Avon, Penny Dossman (Jeff) of Pittsboro, John Stephens (Sarrah), Jim Stephens (Melissa), both of Danville; sister, Louanne Feist of Carmel; 7 grandchildren, Michelle, Andrea, Alyssa, Joseph, Garrett, Mitchell, Delaney; 4 great grandchildren, Nathan, Ellie, Parker, Carson; and his beloved Boston Terrier dog, Norman.  Joe’s family would like to give a special thank you to the entire staff at Hendricks Regional Health for the amazing care he received over the last few weeks.  Services will be at 3:00 pm on Monday, May 10, 2021 at Baker Funeral Home, Danville, with burial to follow at Danville South Cemetery with military honors.  Visitation will be from 12:00 noon until 2:45 pm at which time a Masonic service will be held prior to the traditional funeral service. You are also invited to watch the services via live stream on the Baker Funeral Home Facebook Page.  In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to one’s favorite charity.
