James R. “Jim” Powell, age 70, of Brownsburg passed away on December 18, 2021. Jim was born on December 9, 1951 in Clay, Kentucky to the late Robert L. and Martha Hopper Powell. He married Sidney “Suzy” Powell on August 8, 1998. He was a 1970 graduate of Cascade High School and attended Purdue University. Jim was a hair stylist and owned and operated Natural Concepts in Greenwood. He loved to cook and bake, enjoyed catering food to people, loved to dance, enjoyed listening to music, he loved to travel, taking his nieces and nephews on several trips, he was fortunate enough to reconnect with his classmates of cascade high school class of 1970 and was a member of the Alpha Kappa Lambda at Purdue. Funeral services will be held on Thursday December 23, 2021 at 2 p.m. in Hall-Baker Funeral Home, Plainfield. Calling hours will be from 11 a.m. until service time on Thursday. Survivors include his wife Sidney “Suzy” Powell. Sisters: Pat Lottes (Wayne), Linda Eickleberry, Teresa Wade (Bill). Aunts: Frances Ogles and Georgia Hopper. Special niece: Felice Gilbert (James). Nieces and Nephews: Jeremy Ash, Felice Gilbert, Tracy Whittaker, Lori Brown, Joshua Wade, Dustin Powell, Patrick Wade, Robert Powell, Tyler Powell and Krista Umbarhowar. Several great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers: Bruce and Donnie Powell. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Powell Family Underprivileged Children’s Christmas Fund (please make checks payable to Pat Lottes). This is a charity that is near and dear to the entire Powell family or to the American Heart Association 3816 Payshere Circle Chicago, Illinois 60674. All guests attending visitation and/or services will be required to wear a mask at all times in an effort to promote a safe environment.
