Obituary

Gwendolene Shoulders Clearwater, 90, of Spring Hill, Florida (formerly of Plainfield, Indiana) went home to be with the Lord on March 20, 2024. Gwen was born on April 26, 1933 in Clay, Kentucky. She was the daughter of the late Parker and Naomi (Liggett) Shoulders. She had five sisters and one brother, Mary Jeanette Shoulders (deceased), Joretta Clark (deceased), Carolyn Barney (deceased), Ruthy Clyngenpeel (deceased), Linda McClure and Tommy Shoulders (Beverly). She was predeceased by her loving husband of 71 years, Darrell Richard Clearwater. Gwen began working at a young age; landing her first job at age 16 taking phone orders at American Art and Clay. While at American Art and Clay, Gwen met a tall, handsome chemical engineer and World War II veteran, Darrell Richard Clearwater and they were married on January 7, 1950. Together, they were blessed with many children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren who they loved dearly. Debbie (Greg), Pam (John), Rick (Debbie), Dave (Patti), Joe (Kathy), Lori (Chet), Andrea (Kevon), Dan (Erin), Tara (Billy), Jennifer (Adam), Jeffrey (Jordyn), Diana (Scott), Clint (Brooke), Sierra (Ryan), Alana, Zach (Rita), Travis, Autumn, Rian, McKenna, Landon, Imogen, Weston, Henry, Ella, Taylor, Willow, Vivian, Lily, Thomas, Colton, Davis, Haley Rae, Nora and Maiya. Gwen was a devoted wife and mother who traveled the globe with her family, diligently taking care of them wherever they were stationed. She was also fun-loving, hard- working and loved to serve. Before moving to Florida in 2020, Gwen attended and served at the Plainfield Baptist Church for over 30 years. Her last place of employment was working at Plainfield Florist where she used her artistic ability to bless many. She was creative and gifted in floral designing and she loved to create beautiful flower arrangements for her church each Sunday. She was quick to volunteer, working with Operation Christmas Child, hosting Sunday School class dinners, providing meals for new moms and clothes for the needy. She enjoyed working in the yard, sewing and keeping in touch with her many friends and family by telephone, but most importantly, she loved to spend time with her family. Her love for God and family, her laughter, work ethic, resourcefulness, generosity and servant-attitude were an amazing gift to those who knew her.

In lieu of flowers, the family requested donations be made in Gwen's name to the Alzheimer's Association.

A Life Celebration Service will be held at 12:00 noon on Friday, March 29, 2024 at Hall-Baker Funeral Home, Plainfield, with burial to follow at Maple Hill Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 10:00 am until the service begins in the funeral home.
