Donald E. McGillem

Donald E. McGillem (3/29/43-1/7/21), loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away at home after an extended illness.  He was born in Washington, IN, to the late Vernon Eugene and Ruth (Abel) McGillem.  Don married Kathleen O’Herron on October 11, 1980 in Elmira, New York.  He graduated from Purdue University with a degree in civil engineering. He worked for the Federal Highway Administration before founding D.E. McGillem & Assoc. with partners Robert E. Hittle and Samuel M. Cline. He ended his career as Director of Transportation for the Town of Plainfield. Since retiring in 2012, he enjoyed spending time with friends, neighbors, and family, most especially his grandsons. Don loved auto racing and was a lifelong Indy Car enthusiast.  He was a member of St. Susanna Catholic Church.  Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Kathleen O. McGillem of Plainfield; daughter and son-in-law, Sarah & Reynaldo Stargell with grandsons Andrew and Evan of Lewis Center, Ohio; sister and brother-in-law, Sharon & Gary Richardson of Mitchell, IN; brothers- and sisters-in-law Frederick & Nancy O’Herron of Winchester, MA; Dennis & Mary Frances O’Herron of Rochester, NY; Brian & Mary O’Herron of Buffalo, NY; Jacalyn O’Herron of Horseheads, NY; numerous nieces and nephews. He was loved by all who knew him and he will be dearly missed.  Visitation will be from 4:00-7:00 pm on Monday, January 11, 2021 at St. Susanna Catholic Church in Plainfield.  A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 am on Tuesday, January 12, 2021 in the church, with burial to follow in Maple Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Ronald McDonald House Charities of Central Indiana (rmhccin.org).  Hall-Baker Funeral Home, Plainfield, is in charge of the arrangements.  Online condolences may be left at www.bakerfuneralservice.com
