David Eugene Cox, 61 of Danville, passed away January 24, 2018 at Methodist Hospital. Born September 29, 1956 in Indianapolis, he is the son of Pauline A. Truax Cox and the late Howard E. Cox. David graduated from George Washington High School and was also certified in HVAC at ITT Tech. He worked for Allison Transmission for over 40 years, retiring in July of 2017. He was a member of the U-A-W Local #933. David followed Indy Racing League and worked as a yellow shirt at the IMS for many years. He also volunteered for the Hendricks County 4-H program and enjoyed camping, gardening, traveling to warm places (especially Florida), and roasting hogs for friends and family. He was an avid fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers and Purdue Boilermakers. David never met a stranger and was always quick to lend a helping hand. His greatest joy was spending time with his children, grandchildren, and cherished dog, Sophie.
Survivors include his children, Carrie (James) Little of Lebanon; Kenneth (Emily) Cox of Ellettsville; grandchildren, Caleb and Avery Little, Adelaide Cox; mother, Pauline of Danville; siblings, Wanda (Allen) Lady of Greenwood, Martha (Steve) Meno of New Palestine, Carl Cox of Indianapolis, and Larry (Holly) Cox of Amo.
Private graveside services will be held in the Danville South Cemetery. A public Celebration of Life will be held February 11, 2018 in the South Hall of the Hendricks County Fairgrounds at 2 p.m. Please wear Indy Racing League or casual attire and come prepared to enjoy a hog roast.
