Alvin Ray Plahitko, 72, of Plainfield passed away on July 19, 2022. He was born on August 10, 1949 in Indianapolis to James and Hazel (Shaw) Plahitko. After graduating from Manual High School, he spent three years at Indiana University before serving in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. Al worked as a software engineer for many years before retiring. He loved spending his free time delving into the mysteries of the universe through his love of physics and mathematics. Some of his family’s fondest memories include watching sci-fi, action, and laughing along to awful B-movies with him; listening to him talk about theoretical physics (and pretending that we understand); and watching him play with his grandchildren and 3 beloved cats. He never held back in expressing his unconditional love to his friends and family. Al married the love of his life, MaryAnn Worrell, on April 20, 2002 in Danville. Survivors include his wife, MaryAnn Plahitko of Plainfield; sons, Robert (Meagan) Biehn, Christopher (Stephanie) Biehn, John-Paul (Emily) Biehn, John (Christy) Plahitko; daughter, Annie (Brian) Plahitko Brake; stepchildren Rick (Donna) Schuppan, Susan (Kevin) Hill, and Cindy Schuppan; father, James Plahitko Sr.; brother, James (Vicki) Plahitko Jr.; sister, Linda (Plahitko) Gosnell; 13 grandchildren, 8 step grandchildren, and 3 great grandchildren. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, August 06, 2022 from 2:00-6:00 p.m. at the Blanton House Retreat at 625 N. Washington St., Danville, IN, 46122. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to American Cancer Society (https://www.cancer.org) or Wounded Warrior Project (https://support.woundedwarriorproject.org).
