Wayne Smith, age 82, of Plainfield passed away on July 5, 2024 at I.U. West Hospital. He was born on April 15, 1942 in London, Kentucky to the late J.D. and Mildred Roberts Smith. He was the widower of Nancy Hancock Smith and Jeannie Smith. Wayne ("Smitty") was a tradesman in Cutter-grind and worked 30 years with Allison Division of General Motors at Plant 3 in Speedway, Indiana and was a member of the local UAW #933. He was later the custodian at the Plainfield United Methodist Church and was affectionately known as "The Trash Man" by preschool children at the church. He was a loyal member of the Lynhurst Baptist Church. Wayne adored spending time with his kids, grandkids & great-grandchildren. He also enjoyed woodworking in his garage as well as playing Bingo and the Hoosier Lottery.

Visitation will take place on Wednesday, July 10, 2024 from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Hall-Baker Funeral Home, Plainfield, Indiana. Funeral services will start following visitation at 5 p.m. Entombment will take place at a later date in Maple Hill Cemetery, Plainfield.

Survivors include his children: Laura (Rob) Towle, Jeff (Cathy) Smith and Tammy (Jon) Prosser. Companion: Marlene White. Grandchildren: Rachel (Prosser) Midkiff, Zachary Prosser, Claire Towle, Parker Smith, Cody Smith and Madison Prosser. Great-grandchildren: Oliver Prosser, Kennedi Oliver, Paisley Midkiff, Savannah Midkiff, Cecilia Midkiff, Derek Midkiff, and Sage Smith.
