Virgil D. Shepherd, 82 of Clayton, passed away August 31, 2016.  Born September 11, 1933 in Hendricks County, he was the son of Herbert and Gladys Mitchell Shepherd.  He married Helen Cearnal in 1979.  Virgil was a truck driver for Yellow Freight for 38 years, retiring in 1996.  He was a member of Teamsters #135 and the Plainfield Eagles Lodge #3207. Virgil raced stock cars in his younger years and followed racing all his life.   Survivors include his wife, Helen Shepherd of Clayton; daughters, Jacqueline Shepherd, Deniena Combs, Carol Godby; stepdaughters, Laura Foreman, Lisa Lamb; Kim Cearnal and Carolyn Vanes. Sisters: Jane Green, Martha Collier; 14 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.  His parents and brother, William Shepherd and Sister Thelma Gregory preceded him in death.  Calling hours will be on Wednesday September 7, 2016 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. in Hall-Baker Funeral Home Plainfield.  Funeral services will be Thursday September 8, 2016 at 11 a.m. in the funeral home.  Burial will take place in Center Valley Cemetery.  Online condolences can be made at www.bakerfuneralservice.com
