Velma
Lundy
October 9, 1935 – June 1, 2026
Velma Lundy, 90, passed away on June 1, 2026.
Born on October 9, 1935, Velma married Virgil Lundy on July 21, 1971. They spent nearly 36 years together until his passing on July 7, 2007.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Virgil; her son, David Quinn; and her sister and lifelong partner in crime, Pat Henley. Anyone who knew Velma and Pat knew that when those two got together, chaos was sure to follow. Stories got bigger, laughter got louder, the language got more colorful, and there was no telling what might happen next.
Velma is survived by her daughter, Stacey; granddaughter, Samantha Jo; nephew, Andy Rumph and his wife, Brandy, of Bedford, Indiana; and several women whom she loved as daughters and who lovingly called her Mom: Paula Jines of Danville, Indiana; Jodi Ward of Reelsville, Indiana; Lynette Konecny of China Grove, North Carolina; Kathey Watson of Troutman, North Carolina; Stephanie Kutys of Jeffersonville, Pennsylvania; and Malinda Sneary of Mooresville, North Carolina.
If you knew Velma, you knew exactly where she stood. She never minded telling you what she thought—about anything and everything. She loved NASCAR in the days of Dale Earnhardt Sr., enjoyed trips to the original What-A-Burger in Mooresville, North Carolina, and she DESPISED KYLE BUSCH.
Velma lived life on her own terms. She had a sharp wit, a stubborn streak, and little patience for pretending to be something she wasn't. Many of her family's favorite photographs feature Velma flashing her signature one-finger salute at the camera. To those who knew and loved her, it wasn't a sign of disrespect; it was pure Velma—honest, unapologetic, and usually accompanied by a laugh.
More than anything, Velma valued the people she loved. Her family was not defined by blood alone. Throughout her life, she welcomed people into her heart, built lifelong friendships, and earned the love and respect of many who considered her family.
A celebration of Velma's life will be announced at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the family to assist with funeral expenses. Any support and kindness shown during this difficult time is sincerely appreciated
