Stephen Earl Jones passed away June 15, 2023. He was born August 18, 1944 in Brownsburg to Verlie E. and Marjorie Martin Jones. Stephen graduated from Avon High School in 1962. He joined the U.S. Navy in 1964 and retired in 1990 as a Chief Storekeeper. He served as an SK2 for a year in Vietnam from July 1966 to July 1967. Stephen was a life member of the VFW Post 1111, American Legion Post 500, and the DAV. He is a member and past President of The Fraternal Order of Eagles Lodge 3207. After his Navy career ended Stephen worked for IDOC for 17 years until his retirement in 2007. He volunteered with the Hendricks County Master Gardeners for 10 years and the Indiana Honor Flight for 3 years. Stephen enjoyed coin collecting and gardening. He was a member of St. Mark's Episcopal Church where he was baptized. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Thomas M. Joyce, David K. Jones, Larry A. Jones; sister, Carla D. Morris; nephew, Dennis (Slick) Morris, and a stepson, Bret A. Cruikshank. He is survived by his wife, Carol Dianne Whitlock Jones, brother, Ronald M. O'Dell; sisters, Linda L. (Don) Boeing, Mary E. (Dick) Harman, Donna E. (Roger) Hopkins; many nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews; stepdaughter; Michelle (Joe) Carter; step great-granddaughters, Brittany (Nick) Perez, Ashley Carter; and three step great-grandsons, Aaron, Carter, and James Perez.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 21, 2023 in Hall-Baker Funeral Home, Plainfield, with Mr. Ronald Whitlock officiating. Calling will be one hour prior to the service in the funeral home. Burial will be in the Marion National Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, Stephen has asked donations be made to the FOE 3207 Charity Fund or the Hendricks County Animal Shelter.
