Shirley Ann Ballou, age 86, of Mooresville, Indiana, died peacefully, surrounded by her family, on February 28, 2026. She was born September 26, 1939 in Pineville, Kentucky, the daughter of Richard and Lucy Slusher Brummett. Shirley attended Bell County High School in Pineville, Kentucky.
She retired from General Motors (Allison Gas Turbine Division). Shirley shared 71 years of marriage with her beloved husband, Walter Ballou, whom she married on August 10, 1954. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother, and grandmother. Shirley was a homemaker for many years and an excellent cook! Her legacy will live on in the family she lovingly raised. Shirley will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew and loved her.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Richard and Lucy Brummett; daughter, Barbara Kay Ballou; son, Tommy Ballou; brothers, Randal, George, Werner, Donnie Brummett; and sisters, Ruby Bryant and Libby Cox.
Survivors include her husband, Walter Ballou; children, Rex (Kay) Ballou, Linda (Samuel) Woodford, David (Penny L) Ballou, Darrell (Penny E) Ballou; grandchildren, Sharina Ballou, Julie (Scott) McKenzie, Brandon (Jenn) Ballou, Samuel (Sabrina) Woodford, Brian (Micki) Woodford, David M (Leah) Ballou, Troy (Celeste) Ballou, Ryan (Valerie) Ballou, Darrell R. Ballou, Christina Ballou; nineteen great grandchildren; six great-great grandchildren; sister, Brenda (Ron) Davis; brothers, Slusher (Viola) Brummett, Jerry (Mable) Brummett; and a host of nephews and nieces.
Visitation will be held from 12:00 noon until 1:00 pm on Friday, March 6, 2026 in Hall-Baker Funeral Home 339 E Main St Plainfield, IN 46168. Funeral services will begin at 1:00 pm in the funeral home with burial to follow at Maple Hill Cemetery, Plainfield.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate caregivers during the months Shirley battled MDS-AML. Thank you all for everything you provided during this difficult time. The family appreciates each one of you!
