Obituary

Shirley A. Amos, age 78, of Brownsburg, passed away on February 3, 2026 at Brownsburg Health Care Center. She was born on May 27, 1947 in Cincinnati, Ohio to the late Arthur and Loretta Linz Hiller.

As a child, Shirley was a social butterfly and though she didn’t like school, she enjoyed tutoring other kids in her neighborhood. She once invited all of the neighborhood kids to a birthday party that her Mom did not know she was having. She was a Brownie and involved with scouting. She often talked about how she stayed up past midnight with her Dad to eat bologna because she was not a fan of Fish Friday’s.

Shirley was a graduate of St. Dominic School in Cincinnati in 1961. She later earned an AAS Degree in Accounting from Monroe Community College in Rochester, NY in 1986. She worked many jobs in her career including time as an inventory analyst, accountant, and dental assistant but most often spoke fondly of her time as the course scheduler at the University of Cincinnati.

She was an active member of St. Paul’s Church in Webster, NY and enjoyed her bowling league activities as evidenced by her many certificates and trophys. After her multiple sclerosis diagnosis, she became involved in a MS support group where she participated in an adaptive bowling league.

Her partner of over 30 years, Jim, ensured that she made it to her support group, activities and the grocery store. He was devoted to her care and was a loving companion.

Shirley was a loving and supportive mother to her three children, Cathy, Jennifer and Mark. She baked custom cakes for their neighborhood birthday parties, would cook 3 different meals to their liking and made sure they were involved in sports and activities. She was a Girl Scout Leader However, she preferred to spend time with them individually and not have them in the same room together to avoid them “fighting” with one another.

Shirley loved her six grandchildren very much and she celebrated her birthday with them many years on return trips to Ohio in May. She was always curious about their lives and wanted updates regularly.

Words that have been used to describe include: loquacious, selfless, and sassy. Her facial expressions always gave her thoughts away which got her in trouble as a child and led to much laughter as an adult. She perfected rolling her eyes and did so often.

In May 2024, Shirley moved to Brownsburg Health Care Center in Brownsburg, Indiana. She thrived in her new environment and eagerly anticipated the calendar of events. Shirley played bingo at every chance winning prizes for everyone but herself, attended the rosary weekly and enjoyed her time in the hair salon. She did not think manicures or Resident Council were worthy activities. She spent her remaining free time watching game shows.

Survivors include her daughters: Cathy (Mike) Myron and Jennifer Amos. Sister: Carol (Herman) Mollmann. Grandchildren: Makenna Myron, Alex Myron, Sami Myron, Joshua Fairchild, Luke Amos and Kate Amos. Significant other: Jim Deacon. She was preceded in death by her parents and her favorite child, Mark Amos.

Shirley will be laid to rest next to her son, Mark. Funeral mass will be on Saturday February 7, 2026 at 1 p.m. in St. Susanna Catholic Church, Plainfield. Burial will follow in Maple Hill Cemetery, Plainfield.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the church prior to the Funeral Mass.
