Richard "Dick" Burrows, 81 of Danville, passed away December 26, 2017 at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.  Born on March 4, 1936 in Chicago, Illinois, he was the son of Roy E. and Helen M. (Riley) Burrows.  He was a 1954 graduate of Danville High School, received his bachelor's degree from Indiana Central and a master's degree from Butler University.  He married Carolyn "Katy" Turley on July 19, 1957 in the Danville Christian Church.

Mr. Burrows was a teacher and also coach for both football and track at Danville Community High School and has been for over 50 years.  Dick was a member of the Indiana State Teacher's Association, National Education Association and the Indiana High School Coaches Association.  In 1981, he received the I F C A 100 Game Winner Award and also the Indiana Central Coach of the Year Award.

He had served on the Danville Town Council for many years and was the former police commissioner.  He was a 48 year member of the Phi Delta Kappa Fraternity Gamma Theta Chapter and a member of St. Augustine Episcopal Church.

Survivors include his wife, Katy Burrows of Danville; daughter, Teresa (Kevin) Bruce of Clayton; son, Steve Burrows of Danville; sister, Pat (Jack) Barnhart of Brownsburg; grandchildren, Tiffany (Jason) Thompson, Katy (Josh) McElhany, Bridget Smith, Brenda Burrows, Stevie Burrows, Madison Burrows; great grandchildren, Trey, Cassie, Bella, Keegan, Callie, Jayce, Molly and Gwen.  His parents, 3 brothers and 1 sister, preceded him in death.

Services will be at 3:30 pm on Sunday, January 7, 2018 in the Danville High School gymnasium with burial to follow in the Danville South Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 10:00 am until the service time in the gym.  In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Dick Burrows Memorial Fund c/o Huntington Bank 108 E Main Street Danville, IN 46122, monies will be used to benefit his athletes.  Baker Funeral Home, Danville, is in charge of the arrangements.
