IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Mildred "Midge"
(English) Trent
February 23, 1938 – May 27, 2025
With heavy hearts, the family of Mildred English Trent ("Midge"), a life long resident of Hendricks County, announces her passing on May 27, 2025.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Harold "Joe" Trent, and she is survived by her four children: Amy Bain and her husband Ken, Arlene Kline, Lana Trent, and John Trent and his wife Tracie. She has four grandchildren whom she treasured Matthew Howe (and wife Ashley), Daniel Bain, Molly Bain and Sam Trent, and four precious great-granddaughters, Kyra, Elyse, Madelyn, and Ryleigh Howe.
Mildred, 87, and her sister Ruth were born to Lester and Frances English, on a farm north of Brownsburg. As a country girl, she enjoyed gardening and cooking and was known for her homemade baked goods and award winning pickles. She was active in the Brownsburg Homemakers Club and in 1968 was crowned Mrs. Hendricks County. She enjoyed playing the flute and piano, cheering for Purdue, and singing and competing with the Sweet Adelines. She was an active member of the Danville Garden Club, the DAR, and the Brownsburg Jayncees, and for many years she taught Sunday school and played piano for the preschool children at Brownsburg Christian Church. She was always ready for a good hand of bridge and knew many card games that were taught to the grandchildren. She enjoyed simple Hoosier traditions such as hunting for morel mushrooms, fighting the briars for wild black raspberries, collecting plump persimmons in the fall, and preparing treats from the garden such as fried green tomatoes. In addition to managing the household and taking care of family, she worked as an advertising assistant, legal secretary, receptionist and even a newspaper columnist for the Brownsburg Guide. Her friendly voice and bubbling personality were welcomed and admired by those who met her. She shared many wonderful memories with her friends and family who were an important part of her life.
Mildred and Joe were Florida snowbirds and spent many winters in Nokomis at the Spanish Lakes Community. She was active in shuffleboard tournaments, numerous card clubs, and fundraisers, and her homemade fruit pies were a favorite item at the community auction. However, it was the annual talent show that she will be remembered for as she planned skits, arranged acts, coordinated programs, costumes and scenery, and was always the hostess of the "After Party" back at her home. She enjoyed collecting piano figurines, fishing, and traveling, especially to Las Vegas. She will be missed by many.
A celebration of Midge's joyous life will be held on May 31 at 11:00, with visitation at 10:00 – 11:00 at Baker Funeral Home in Danville.
