Obituary

Maxie D. Barber, 85 of Avon, passed away on April 30, 2025. He was born on May 15, 1939 in Scottsville, Kentucky, to the late Ruby Eller Barber and Charles Joseph Barber.

At age 17 he moved from Kentucky to Indiana where he would eventually meet his lifelong love, Joan Lee Harrison. They were married for 66 years at the time of Joan's passing in 2023. Max earned the nickname "Mad Max" because of his exceptional work ethic. He started his own grading business in the late 80's and retired in 2005. Max was a steadfast Christian and enjoyed being involved in the church. He loved to spend time with family, golf, fish, and root for the Colts and Pacers.

Survivors include his sons, Christopher Barber of Fort Wayne, David Barber of Mooresville, Matthew Barber of Greencastle; 9 grandchildren; and 4 great grandchildren. His parents; Ruby and Charles, wife, Joan; and siblings, Raymond, Russell, Eunice, and Buford, preceded him in death.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, May 06, 2025 in Baker Funeral Home, Danville, with burial to follow at the Danville South Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00-7:00 pm on Monday, May 05, 2025 in the funeral home.  In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
