Mary Louise McAlister Green July 14, 1939—July 10, 2026
Mary Louise McAlister Green, born July 14, 1931, to Alvin and Ruth McAlister, lived a joyful and full life centered on faith, family, and friendship. Louise met the love of her life, Fred Green, at Council Baptist Church in Charleston, Tennessee. They quickly fell in love and were married on January 29, 1947. Together they shared a long, beautiful life — one that, as she would often say, "went so fast.” She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 71 years, Fred Green; her two grandchildren, Randy and Michele, who remained forever in her heart; her brother, Bill Longwith; and her sisters, Sue Stewart and June Hicks. She is survived by her two daughters, Patsy (Terry) McCarter of Greencastle and Susan (Darrell) Tyler of Plainfield; her grandson, Steven (Kristen) Tyler; of Indianapolis, her cherished great grandsons, Elijah and Benjamin Tyler; and her sisters, Penny Smith and Charlotte McAlister. Louise was a devoted homemaker who took great delight in caring for her family. She loved baking and was especially known for her famous chocolate and coconut pies, which she gladly shared with friends and neighbors. If you knew Louise, odds are she gave you something along the way — a baked good, a hand-painted treasure, or a thoughtful card from her card ministry. A gifted artist, she enjoyed china painting and was active in Beta Sigma Phi Sorority and the Red Hat Club. A faithful member of Plainfield Baptist Church, Louise loved the Lord, loved children, and sang joyfully in the church choir, encouraging her family’s love of music. She had an adventurous spirit — if anyone said, “Let’s go…,” she was ready. Louise loved attending auctions, celebrating birthdays, and spending time with dear friends. She found happiness in life’s simple pleasures and truly treasured every moment, always giving of herself to others. She often did the things she hadn’t had the chance to do growing up — and she did them with enthusiasm and gratitude. Louise’s life was vibrant, active, and full of love. Her family will forever remember her warmth, her generosity, and the joyful way she embraced life. Funeral services will be held on July 16, 2026, at Hall-Baker Funeral Home in Plainfield, visitation from 12:00 to 2:00, with the service immediately following. Burial will follow at Clayton Cemetery in Clayton, Indiana.
