Martha Lou Cummings (98 years young) previously a Plainfield resident went to be with her Lord and reunite with her husband of 68 years Thomas G. Cummings.
Born July 1, 1928 to John and Jessie (Harkelroad) Walton she was a full-time, extremely busy homemaker to four (4) children who survive: Larry (Jean) Cummings of Ft. Worth Texas, Mark (Patti) Cummings of Mooresville IN, Lou Etta (Fred Lakins), Quincy IN and the “baby” Eric (Christy) Cummings of Greenfield IN. She was truly blessed to be Grandma, Mamaw and GG to 9 Grandchildren and 12 Great-Grandchildren.
Although her life’s journey was lengthy it was certainly not boring. Traveling in her younger years with children by her side, she and Dad ensured a memorable time to reflect back on.
As an excellent cook she always provided the “opportunity” to try some questionable but edible items. “
She was well-known by many in the community and made a true connection to those she met.
With her “sassy” pants on she joined in with a range of activities with her rowdy family. From overnight fishing, Game Days to Traditional Holiday celebrations she was the Matriarch and always considered first and foremost. Known for her wit, sarcasm and determination she continued to change with the times getting her first cell phone in her 80s. She loved sending and receiving texts but never quite mastered the appropriate usage of emojis. In her last chapter of her life, she graciously handed down her pie making secrets, and her skilled crocheting techniques to ensure traditions would carry on.
She will be greatly missed by all that knew her. Very sweet woman with a side of zest who lived a long and full life.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday October 20, 2026 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. in Hall-Baker Funeral Home, Plainfield. Funeral services will be on Wednesday October 21, 2026 at 11 a.m. in the funeral home with additional visitation from 10 a.m. until service time. Burial will follow in Bethel Cemetery, Indianapolis.
