Obituary

Marilynn Louise Morrissey, 92 of Danville, passed on November 29th, 2025, surrounded by the comfort of her family. Marilynn was born on September 20, 1933, in Panora, Iowa, to the late Freeda Ellen (Clark) and Charles Wallace Poage. At just 17 years old, Marilynn snuck into a recruitment meeting with a friend and enlisted in the United States Air Force—a decision that would ultimately lead her to meet the love of her life, William Earl Morrissey. Marilynn married her late husband William on January 2, 1953, in Rome, New York. Together they had four children and several grandchildren whom Marilynn dedicated her life to taking care of. Marilynn showed her love through countless hours spent tending to her garden so her family would always have healthy food to eat; by having a home-cooked meal ready at 5:30 p.m. every evening, ensuring her family continued to gather together even as her children grew well into adulthood; by helping raise her grandchildren and teaching them how to cook and garden so they could carry those traditions into their own future families; and by always being there whenever she was needed. Marilynn not only served our country, but she also served her community every chance she got. She had a deep love for children and spent many years mentoring young girls as a Girl Scout leader and serving as a teacher and cook at Mother's Day Out which was part of Northview Christian Church. Marilynn was a faithful woman and a devoted member of Northview Christian Church. During her time there, she saw yet another way to serve her community and helped establish and run the church's clothes closet, which continues to operate to this day. She actively participated in the Homeless Ministry every week while it was in operation at the church. Marilynn is survived by her daughters; Mary (Greg) Coleman, Linda D. Sanders, Sharon M. Gregg. She is also survived by her granddaughters; Stacy Sanders, Natalie (Joe) Pierson, Brandi (Joseph) Elliott. Marilynn was preceded in death by her son; Terry Morrissey, husband; William E. Morrissey, parents; Freeda and Charles Poage, siblings; Charles Poage, Kenneth Poage, Richard Poage, and Judith Noble. A celebration of Marilynn's life will be held from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. Saturday January 17, 2025 at Northview Christian Church 623 IN-39, Danville, IN 46122. Enter through Door #6. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the church. Baker Funeral Home, Danville, is handling the arrangements. Online condolences may be made at www.bakerfuneralservice.com
