Obituary

Kenneth Glenn Buckner was born November 8, 1941 to Glenn and Lida (Hoult) Buckner in Bloomington, Indiana. He graduated from Bloomington High School and went on to graduate from Indiana University with a degree in Business.  While at Indiana University he was a member of the Mighty Marching 100 as a clarinet player and it was through the music department that he met the love of his life, Oma Birl, to whom he was married 60 years. As a graduate of Indiana University, he was a fan of all things IU and would watch every basketball game that he could.

Trained in accounting, Ken worked for RCA then Thompson Electronics  in Indianapolis for more than 30 years.

Ken not only played music, he enjoyed listening to and experiencing it as well. He and Oma took frequent trips to Branson, MO.  He was her faithful assistant when it came to all her musical endeavors including her work as a choir and bell choir director, and her participation in the Hendricks County Symphony.  He enjoyed listening to classical music on his Bose radio.

His sense of humor could keep any room cheerful and his penchant for giving out nicknames was matched by none. He enjoyed living at Sugar Grove Assisted Living Senior Community and had come to know quite a number of fellow residents as well as staff members.  Ken was a faithful member of Plainfield United Methodist Church where he spent hours volunteering in many capacities.

Ken loved his family which included four children, Dave (Laura) Buckner, Dan (Julie) Buckner, Michael Buckner, and Melissa (Scott) Speer, 13 grandchildren and 4 bonus grandchildren, and one great grandchild with another on the way.  He faithfully sent birthday cards to each and eagerly wanted to know what was going on in all of their lives.

Funeral services will be held on January 18th at 3 P.M. in the Plainfield United Methodist Church with visitation from 1 p.m. until the funeral services in the church. In lieu of flowers please make memorial contributions to the Plainfield United Methodist Church Bell Choir 600 Simmons Street, Plainfield, Indiana 46168.
