Junior Curtis (J.C.) Raney, 91, of Plainfield, died on January 21, 2025. The son of Sylvester Raney and Dorothy Davis Raney, he was born in Menifee County, Kentucky, on June 25, 1933.
Mr. Raney graduated from Frenchburg Presbyterian Academy in the spring of 1952 and subsequently joined the U. S. Navy. Following his four-year tour of duty, he enrolled in Asbury College, where he earned a bachelor's degree in sociology. After deciding to become a teacher, he obtained a master's degree from Ball State. Mr. Raney taught in the public schools of Indiana for 32 years.
Surviving is his wife, Laurel Sparks, whom he married on March 29, 1995. Mr. Raney was preceded in death by his parents and his first wife, Sylvia Bowers Raney.
At Mr. Raney's request, there was no funeral. His cremains were buried at Maple Hill Cemetery in Plainfield. Hall-Baker Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
