IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Joyce Alyce
(Cox) Corbitt
April 2, 1933 – December 26, 2025
Joyce Alyce Cox Corbitt passed peacefully with her family by her side on December 26, 2025. She was born on April 2, 1933 in St. Charles, Missouri to Henry (Buster) and Alice Grothe Cox. Joyce went to 8 different grade schools as her family moved to where work took them. Joyce graduated from Anna-Jonesboro High School. She loved school and made friends easily which probably contributed to her deciding to be a teacher. She loved teaching children. She taught 2 years for Avon and the rest of her 27 year career teaching first grade for Danville Community School Corporation. Joyce was a charter member of Northview Christian Church where she served in many capacities, Danville Beta Associates of Tri Kappa, Hendricks County Garden Club, Hendricks County Retired Teachers, and Philamathean Club. She was a past member of Delta Kappa Gamma, Danville Library Board and many other community activities. She and Bill loved to travel and see the world, especially with their Bridge Club friends. Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, husband of over 50 years, Billie Jean Corbitt, her first husband of 1 ⅓ years, Jack Terpinitz, who was killed during the Korean War, and sister Carol Lee Winning. She leaves behind 2 children: Cinda (Randy) Ferguson and Mike (Helen) Corbitt, both of Danville. She has 5 grandchildren: Lindsay Ferguson of Baltimore, MD, Christopher (Elissa) Corbitt of Evansville, David (Jewel) Corbitt of Pittsburg, PA, Sean (Heather) Ferguson of Danville, and Steven (Hillary) Corbitt of Warsaw. She has great-grandchildren who will miss Grammy reading with them (Patrick and Abbigail Corbitt, Ella, Jack and Ryan Ferguson, Clara, Lyla and Nora Corbitt). In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Tussey Scholarship and Grant Program c/o Danville Community Education Foundation 200 Warrior Way Danville, IN 46122.
