Joyce A. McElyea, 88 of Danville, passed away on July 16, 2024. She was born on April 24, 1936 in Pennington Gap, Virginia, to the late Rebecca (Ely) and Hagan Baker. Joyce married Jerry P. McElyea on June 10, 1954 in Pennington Gap, VA., and they were married 57 years before his death on May 14, 2012. She worked at Western Electric for 18 years before her retiring in 1998. Survivors include her son, Jerry R. McElyea (Michelle) of Danville; sister, Ruth Sutton of Noblesville; 5 grandchildren, Shane McElyea (Max) of Indianapolis, Brittney McElyea of Anderson, Jaelynn Harrold (Joe) of Danville, Kebra Afflis (Karl) of Avon, Brooke McElyea of Indianapolis; 2 great grandchildren, Teresa "Rosie" and Olivia Harrold; and a very special friend, Brenda Whaley of Pittsboro. She also was preceded in death by her son and daughter-in-law, Rick and Teresa (Wallace) McElyea; and siblings, infant Jackie Ray Baker, Jim, David, Larry, and Willard Baker. Services will be at 12:00 noon on Monday, July 22, 2024 in Baker Funeral Home with burial to follow at the Danville South Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10:00 am until the service time in the funeral home.
