Joseph W. Stephens, 76 of Plainfield, passed away December 9, 2016 in Cumberland Trace.  Born May 22, 1940 in Memphis, TN., he was the son of Oscar Eugene and Sara Elizabeth Woodruff Stephens.  He married Rita McBurney on December 13, 1973.  Mr. Stephens worked as an electrical engineer for RCA Thompson for 35 years, retiring in 2003.  During this time he received 3 patents.  He was a member of the Plainfield United Methodist Church and an Eagle Scout.  Survivors include his wife, Rita Stephens of Plainfield; sons, Joe Stephens, Jr., Michael Stephens; daughters, Lynne Steffus (Jim), Michelle Giordano (Dan); sisters, Linda Gray (Jim), Agene Parsons (Charles); and five (5) grandchildren, Justin, Gabrielle, Jordan, Scotty and Reagan.  Services will be at 11:00 am on Friday, December 16, 2016 in Plainfield United Methodist Church with Pastor Elizabeth Gilbert and Pastor Charlie Wilfong officiating.  Calling will be two (2) hours prior to the memorial service in the church.  Contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society  5635 W 96th St  Ste 100  Indianapolis, IN  46278 or Cumberland Trace Comfort Care  1925 Reeves Road  Plainfield, IN  46168.  Hall-Baker Funeral Home, Plainfield, is in charge of the arrangements.
