John David Atto Sr., 85, of Avon passed away on February 28, 2017 in Hendricks Regional Health.  He was born on December 31, 1931 in Palestine, Illinois to Ray Harold and Hazel Pearl Gettinger Atto.  He married Freda Montgomery Atto on September 26, 1966 in Indianapolis; she preceded him in death in 1999.  John was a Marine Veteran of the Korean War. He was a Locomotive Engineer for 44 years for New York Central, Penn Central and retired from Conrail in 1993.  John was a member of the Danville United Methodist Church, Western Star Masonic Lodge #26, Danville, and Scottish Rite in Indianapolis.  Calling hours will be on Saturday, March 4, 2017 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Hall-Baker Funeral Home, Plainfield.  Reverend Josh Little will officiate.  Entombment will follow in Lincoln Memory Gardens, Whitestown.  Survivors include his son, John Atto Jr. (Dawn); granddaughters, Abigail and Mackenzie Atto.  He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, brother, Ray Atto and sister, Peggy Rode.
