It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Jerome “Jerry” F. Collyer on January 15, 2026, at the age of 77. A devoted father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Jerry was known for his tireless work ethic, quiet wisdom, and unwavering support of his family. Throughout his life, he exemplified the values of integrity and perseverance, leaving a lasting impression on all who knew him.
Jerome F. Collyer was born on March 6, 1948, in Ypsilanti, Michigan, to Wilber Winfield Collyer and Mary Lou Catherine (Lindemeyer) Collyer. He grew up in the Detroit area and proudly graduated from the University of Michigan. Jerry later moved to Indianapolis, where he married the mother of his children, Jennifer Jean Wells Collyer.
Jerry built an accomplished career in the mortgage industry, working his way from loan officer to broker, manager, and ultimately owner of CMC Mortgage in Indiana and Florida. Through his work, he helped countless families achieve the security and stability of home ownership. As President of the Florida Mortgage Professional Association, Jerry worked directly with legislators in Washington, helping to shape mortgage laws at a national level.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Christine “Cathy” Wilhelmi. He is survived by his brother, James “Jimmy” Kent (Carol); his children, Natalie Thode (Lewis) and Eric Collyer (Libby); five grandchildren, Erica, Dakota, Maycee, Tyler, and Jakob; and five great-grandchildren, Rylen, Jaxson, Landon, Asher, and Carter.
Jerry was also fortunate to have found love again and married Linda Davies Collyer. He became a devoted stepfather—who quickly became “Dad”—to Tom, Jana, and Doug Davies, and he proudly embraced their children, Nick, Maci, and Dalton, as his own. While Jerry was an exceptional father, he was, by all accounts, an even more remarkable grandfather.
A memorial service will be held on January 21, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Hall Baker Funeral Home in Plainfield, with a graveside burial immediately following at Danville South Cemetery. The family invites all who knew and loved Jerry to a Celebration of Life in his honor that evening at 6:00 p.m. at The Prewitt in Plainfield.
Jerry’s unwavering love for his family and his enduring legacy of strength and kindness will never be forgotten.
