Grandchildren: Stephanie (Joe) Welte, Westville, IN, Melissa (Bane) Isailovic, Lafayette, IN, Jacki (Matthew) Mourning, Plainfield, IN, Christopher (Megan) Rohrer, Bloomington, IN, Matthew Rohrer, Indianapolis, IN, Alisha (Jeff) Rose, Nome AK, Bethany (Hunter) Fletcher, Indianapolis. IN, Sarah (Elijah) Roush, Muncie, IN and Katie Schuecking, St. Louis, MO and 12 great grandchildren.
Hugh was born on October 10, 1937, in Louisville, Ohio, to parents who were dairy farmers. He graduated from Louisville High School, Class of 1955. He married Erma Harris on August 16, 1958. He worked after high school for several years at a gas station and then as an appliance repairman. He began his ministry with 10 years in Youth for Christ in Canton, Ohio, Moline, IL and Lagrange, IN.
Hugh served the following United Methodist Churches: Arcola and Lake Chapel. While serving these churches he finished college at Indiana/Purdue, Fort Wayne, IN, and United Theological Seminary in Dayton, OH. He then served at Bippus and Andrews, Swayzee. While serving at Swayzee he was Ordained an Elder. Then served Elkhart Oakland Avenue. While there he and Erma, along with two other pastors' united four churches together to form the Faith UMC. After leaving the Faith Church he served Ashley and Hudson then retiring from the Harlan UMC. After retirement he and Erma served the Wolcott and Judyville Churches.
He and Erma moved to Plainfield, IN in 2018 to live with their son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Laurie Rohrer. Hugh remained actively involved in the Plainfield United Methodist Church while physically able. Hugh’s inurnment will be in the Columbarium at the Plainfield United Methodist Church, Plainfield, IN.
