IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Honar Mae
(Riggs) Tate
March 14, 1930 – June 17, 2025
Honar Mae Tate, age 95, passed away peacefully in her sleep on June 17th, leaving behind a legacy of love, service, and devotion to her family and community. Born in Princeton, Indiana, to Aaron and Mable Riggs, Honar Mae lived a life full of purpose, heart, and resilience.
She went to Princeton High School, where she met the love of her life, John Tate at the age of 13. They were married on October 9, 1948, and together raised three daughters, building a home filled with faith, laughter, and strong family values.
A devoted and active member of Plainfield United Methodist Church for many years, Honar Mae was the heart of countless church events. She ran the church kitchen, helped organize renovations, worked the annual Fish Fry, coordinated wedding receptions, taught Bible School, led youth groups, was active in Mary Martha Circle, and she made all the phone calls for Last Saturday lunches. Talking to people was one of her specialties and she always had a warm smile and willing hands.
Known as a true "Jane of all trades," Honar Mae took on many roles in her lifetime, from working as a dietician to running her own successful drapery business. Fearless and full of curiosity, there was nothing she wouldn't try at least once. This includes ziplining with her grandchildren in the Smoky Mountains at the age of 84.
She was also an avid gardener who loved flowers and had a special talent for making everything around her more beautiful. But above all, family was the center of her world. She cherished every moment spent with her loved ones, and nothing brought her more happiness than preparing meals for them. Easter and Christmas dinners were her most beloved traditions, always complete with her famous fruit salad and cinnamon rolls on Christmas morning.
Honar Mae Tate was a woman of strength, grace, and unwavering love. Her memory will live on in the hearts of her children, grandchildren, and all who were lucky enough to know her.
Honar Mae was preceded in death by her beloved husband, John Tate; her daughter, Caroline Robson; and her sisters, Monzell Brown and Bernice Riggs.
She is survived by her daughters Kelly (Tom) Bassler and Angela Tate; her son-in-law Stan Robson; her grandchildren Erin (David) Minner, Trent (Erica) Robson, Megan McCoy, Morgan McCoy (Andrew), Breanne (Jayson) Dilger, and John (Amanda) Bassler II; her great-grandchildren Cayden and Ashton Minner, Tinsley Robson, Everett Trefny, and John Bassler III; and her sisters Esther Armstrong, Sharon Fauquher, and Patricia Ready.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Plainfield United Methodist Church's Last Saturday Lunch program or the Hendricks County Animal Shelter.
