Gordon Peel Sr., age 88, of Plainfield passed away on December 6, 2023 in Life's Journey Hospice in Avon. He was born on September 19, 1935 in Zolfo Springs, Florida to the late William Peel and Opha Lynn Womack Herttell. He was married to Sondra Joan Yarbro on December 14, 1957. Gordon was a US Airforce veteran. He graduated from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. Gordon was a flight engineer for aircraft contracted to NASA for transporting Saturn rocket personnel and astronauts. In 1965 Gordon was a pilot and chief aircraft mechanic for Inland Container until his retirement in 2000. He was a long-time member of the Plainfield Baptist Church where he held many volunteer positions including music director and treasurer. A memorial service will be held at Plainfield Baptist Church on Saturday, December 9, 2023 at 10 a.m. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and sister, Mary Ruth. Survivors include his children, Susan Wills of Benton, Arkansas, Charlotte Ashley of Monrovia, Indiana, Karen Trivett of Indianapolis, Indiana, Gordon Peel Jr. of Pensacola, Florida and Jason Peel of Elmhurst, Illinois; brother, Kelly Peel; grandchildren, Dustin Wills, Daniel Wills, Drake Ashley, Anand Peel, Sajan Peel, Cheresa Sloan, Josh Trivett, Jake Trivett; and 4 great grandchildren. Hall-Baker Funeral Home, Plainfield, is handling the arrangements.
