Eugene Henry Trapp, 95 of Danville, Indiana, passed away on January 12, 2024. He was born on December 25, 1928 in Mount Carmel, Illinois, to the late Marie (Pfeister) and Sylvester S. Trapp. Gene married Catherine A. Basinger in Enfield, Illinois on April 26, 1951. He is a U S Army veteran of the Korean War and a Purple Heart recipient. Gene was a railroad engineer at Conrail for 47 years, retiring in 1997. He was an avid wood carver. He was a member of Mary Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Danville, Knights of Columbus, the Danville American Legion and the V F W. Survivors include his wife of 72 years, Catherine A. Trapp of Danville; sons, Patrick E. (Nora) of Charlottesville, VA., Timothy J. (Ellen) of Huntsville, AL., Michael A. (Mindy) of Indianapolis, Christopher A. Trapp (Christine) of Charlotte, N.C.; daughter, Janice M. Fiori (James) of Indianapolis; 13 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; and his sister, Margaret Bice (Robert). He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Father Joseph Trapp and Tom Trapp; sister, Joanne Johnson; and two grandchildren, Haley Trapp and Mitchell Trapp. Visitation will be from 4:00-7:00 pm on Wednesday, January 17, 2024 at Baker Funeral Home, Danville, IN with Prayers of the Rosary to begin at 6:30 p.m. A funeral mass will be held at 10:00 am on Thursday, January 18, 2024 at Mary Queen of Peace Catholic Church, Danville, IN with Father Michael Fritsch officiating. Burial with military honors and a reception will follow at 3:00 pm CT at Saint Mary Cemetery in Mt. Carmel, Illinois. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to St. Mary's Catholic School, 417 Chestnut Street, Mt. Carmel, IL 62863.
