Barbara (Stewart) Younce

November 8, 1930 – February 21, 2025

Barbara (Stewart) Younce, 94, of Plainfield, Indiana, passed away peacefully on February 21, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Norfolk, Virginia, on November 8, 1930, she was the daughter of Buck and Claudia (Parr) Stewart. She spent her formative years in Eaton, Indiana, where she graduated from Eaton High School.

In August 1949, Barbara married Rev. Teal Younce, embarking on a 69-year journey of love, faith, and adventure. Together, they served in ministry, touching lives in Tennessee, French Lick, Oaktown, Avon, Rochester, and Gas City, Indiana. Barbara had a remarkable ability to connect with people, making everyone feel valued and loved.

Barbara dedicated her life to service and faith. She volunteered extensively at Marion General Hospital and served on the Board of Directors for the Emily E. Flint Home in Marion, Indiana. As a devoted member of the Oaktown Order of Eastern Star Chapter 431, she served as Worthy Matron. She also led as President of the Women's Christian Church Fellowship and contributed as a board member of the Indiana Mental Health Association.

In addition to her service work, Barbara worked as an assistant librarian at Avon High School. She also shared her gifts as a Sunday School teacher and organist, enriching the spiritual lives of many.

She is survived by her sons, David Younce of Plainfield, Douglas (Pam) Younce of Kendallville, and Dennis (Linda) Younce of Avon; her sister, Beth (Rob) Longenecker of Houston, Texas; five granddaughters; five great-grandchildren; and eight nieces and nephews. Barbara was preceded in death by her husband, Teal; her parents, Buck and Claudia; her brother, Walter Stewart; and her sister, Diane Brown.

Barbara's legacy of faith, love, and service will be cherished by all who knew her. She leaves behind a lifetime of memories and a heart full of love that will continue to inspire.

A celebration of Barbara's life will take place on Thursday, February 27th at Avon Christian Church in Avon, Indiana.  Visitation is from 10:00 am to noon.  The funeral service will be held at noon at Avon Christian Church.  Graveside service will be held at 3:00 pm at Union Township Cemetery in Eaton, Indiana.  Memorial contributions may be made to Avon Christian Church or Rev. Teal Younce Legacy Fund at Hendricks County Community Foundation.
