Russell E. Jones, 96 of Jacksonville Beach, Florida, passed away October 25, 2019. He was born on January 11, 1923 in Danville, Indiana, to the late Carl and Millie A. Bramblett Jones. He graduated from Danville High School in 1941. Russell worked as a lineman for Indiana Bell Telephone for 31 years, retiring in 1982 from A T & T. He was a veteran and a 74 year member of the Danville American Legion Post #118, which was near and dear to his heart. He achieved the rank of sergeant in the Army and was part of the 463 FA Batallion, the 3rd Army in France and the 101st Airborne. He was at the Battle of the Bulge and part of the liberation of France. He achieved many citations including the Bronze Star. Russell was a loyal friend to many, both in Indiana and Florida. He loved to play cards, especially Poker, with his buddies at the Legion Post. He was a true Patriot of this wonderful country and will be deeply missed. Survivors include his daughter, Mary Ann Adams (Annie) of Jacksonville Beach, Florida; brother, Robert Jones of Plainfield; grandchildren, Joseph A. and Camilla L. Adams; and several nephews. His parents, wife of 63 years, Mary McCullough Jones; brother, Carl Jones; sister, Doris Jones and niece, Kelly Jones, preceded him in death. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday, November 1, 2019 in Danville South Cemetery with full military rites. Baker Funeral Home, Danville, is in charge of the arrangements.
