Otis E. “Odee” Rogers, Jr., 95, of Plainfield, passed away October 10, 2018. Born November 5, 1922 in Haughville, Indiana, he was the son of Julia Davis Barfield and Otis E. Rogers, Sr. He married Roberta R. Hicks on November 15, 2015 in Indianapolis.
Odee graduated from George Washington High School and attended Butler University. He was a WWII Coast Guard veteran where he patrolled the coast of Paris Island and served in the Phillipines. Odee worked for Elanco, division of Eli Lilly and Co., for 37 years retiring in 1984. He was a middle weight Golden Glove Boxer and a member of a semi-pro football team,Tyron All-Stars in Indianapolis. Odee raised and raced quarter horses and had 2 Indiana Quarter Horses of the Year. Survivors include his wife, Roberta R. Rogers of Plainfield; son, Timothy Rogers of Indianapolis; daughter, Theresa Dunn of Richton, Mississippi; brother, Joe Rogers of Franklin and grandson, Christopher Cameron Dunn of Richton.
A memorial service will be held at 12:00 noon on Monday, October 15, 2018 in Hall-Baker Funeral Home, Plainfield, with calling one hour prior to the service. Inurnment will be in the veterans’ section at West Ridge Park Cemetery in Indianapolis. Contributions may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project P. O. Box 758517 Topeka, Kansas 66675-8517.
