Obituary

 

Noel Michael Peters, 68 of Danville, passed away January 4, 2019 in his residence surrounded by his family and friends.  Born March 10, 1950 in Lebanon, he was the son of the late Noel A. and Shirley (Mynatt) Peters.  Mike married Barbara Jane Whicker on June 3, 1972 in Hadley Friends Meeting.    Mike grew up in North Salem and graduated from North Salem High School in 1968.  He earned his B. S. degree from Ball State University, majoring in Biology, Physical Education and Drivers Education.  He went on to receive his M. S. and Ed. S. degrees from Indiana State University from the School of Administration.

Mike coached pee wee baseball, elementary-aged basketball and served on the Danville Jr. Football League Board.  As an official of IHSAA, he started many track meets throughout his lifetime.   Mr. Peters began his career teaching and coaching basketball at Benjamin Franklin Middle School in Muncie. He then taught for 2 ½ years at Brownsburg Jr. High, was the assistant principal at Brownsburg Middle School for 5 ½ years and then 2 years at Brownsburg High School.  Mr. Peters then served as the assistant principal from 1983 through 1995 at the Danville High School, an additional 13 years as the principal for Danville Middle School, and retired in 2012 from the high school as the assistant principal.  He was a school administrator for 37 years and a teacher for 3. 

Mike was a member of the Hadley Friends Meeting where he was a trustee, the M & C and a Sunday School Teacher.  He was a member of Indiana Association of School Principals for 30 years, serving on the Board of Directors for 5 years and the Executive Board of Directors for 8 years.  Mike was a member of the National Association of School Principals for 35 years.  He was a member of both the Hendricks County and Indiana Retired Teacher’s Associations.  Mike served on the Hendricks County Fairboard for 32 years in multiple roles throughout the years including President, Livestock Director, and Director of Supreme Showmanship.

Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Barbara Jane Peters; children, Heather (Mike) Jackson, Nathan (Amanda) Peters; brother, Steve (Rhonda) Peters; grandchildren, Alida, Hallie, Lilly, Lucy Jackson, Noel and Tillman Peters, all of Danville.

Services will be at 11:00 am on Wednesday, January 9, 2019 in Hadley Friends Meeting with burial to follow in the Hadley Friends Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 3:00-8:00 pm on Tuesday, January 8, 2019 in the Hendricks County 4-H Fairgrounds & Conference Complex 1900 E Main St Danville.  In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Hendricks County 4-H Foundation P. O Box 7 Danville, IN 46122.  Baker Funeral Home, Danville, is in charge of the arrangements.
