Melva Jean Malone Meador Higgins (Higgie) 72, Indianapolis, Indiana passed away on Friday September 8, 2017 @ Hendricks Regional Health Hospital after battling cancer for 15 months.

She was born on July 31, 1945 in Indianapolis, Indiana to Melvin E Malone and Ruth G. Morlan.  At the age of three, she was adopted by Rory E. Meador.

Graduated from Ben Davis High School, Class of 1963. She was an Honored Queen at Bethel 11 in 1962-1963.

She was married to James O. Higgins for 23 years. A resident of Clayton, Indiana for 33 years and then moved to Indianapolis.

She retired from the Indiana Department of Corrections for the Plainfield Correctional Facility after 23 years. She also worked at Link Belt, Cox's Plant Farm, and Response Communications Inc.

Hobbies included bowling for 30 years, crafts, candy/cookie making, and her love for her yorkie-poos. And spending time with her best friends, Mary Belle Myers and Virginia Vaughn-Martin.

Survived by her daughters, Jammye & Ray Samples of Dawsonville, Georgia, Tammye and Michael Vaughn of Clayton, Indiana. She had 11 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. She also had had 5 beloved pets (Tori, Savannah, Buddy, Molly, and Dolly). Siblings: David & Joyce Meador of Martinsville, Indiana and Ronald & Brenda Meador of Clermont, Florida.

Preceded in death by her parents Rory & Ruth Meador, Melvin Malone and her brother Michael R. Meador.

Services will be held at Hazelwood Christian Church in Hazelwood, Indiana on Saturday, September 16, 2017 with Condolences from 2:00pm.-5:00pm and Memorial Service from 5:00pm -6:00.pm.

She was the greatest mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was full of life and always sassy & feisty till the very end.
