Jerald Wayne Burnell, 78, of Danville, IN, passed away on October 8, 2017 surrounded by his loving family. Jerry was born March 29, 1939 in Danville to Lyman and Amy Hudson Burnell. A 1957 graduate of Danville High School, Jerry married his high school sweetheart, Sandy Martin Burnell, on September 20, 1959. It was a union that lasted 58 years of crazy strong love.
Jerry was an US Army Veteran, avid sports fan, referee, coach, and golfer. He was a former member of the Phi Delta Kappa Fraternity, Gamma Theta chapter in Danville.
Jerry is survived by his wife, Sandy Burnell; children Jeff (Jessica) Burnell, Brad (Laurie) Burnell, and Amy (Gary) Gregory, siblings John (Lois) Burnell, Mary (Rod) Brown, and Jason (Diana) Burnell, sister-in-law Shirley Burnell, 21 grandchildren, and 20 great-grandchildren. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Jimmy Burnell and stepmother, Ethel Burnell.
Friends and family will gather to remember Jerry on Thursday, October 12 from 5– 7pm at Baker Funeral Home in Danville. A memorial service will immediately follow.
As Jerry was a double-lung transplant recipient, the family asks that you give the gift of life; it’s a selfless, invaluable act.
