James Ross Riggs, 89 of Danville, passed away December 27, 2017 in The Villages of Avon. Born on March 27, 1928 in Evansville, he was the son of James and Kathryn Swope Riggs. He married Mae Maxine Melloy on June 26, 1949 and she preceded him in death in 2014.
Ross graduated from Reitz High School in Evansville and then graduated from Purdue University in 1950 with a bachelor’s degree in Agriculture. He worked for many years at Indiana Marketing Association, retiring in 1993 as the general manager. He had formerly worked at Indiana Farm Bureau Incorporated. Mr. Riggs was also a dairy farmer and a member and former president of the Indiana Jersey Cattle Association. He was an active member of the Danville United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his sons, Michael Ross (Anna) Riggs, Roger Ray (Renda) Riggs, all of Danville, Roy Dean (Katie) Riggs of North Salem; daughters, Rebecca Jean (Phil) Gladhill of Minnesota, Maribeth (Jay) Williams of Avon; 11 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. His parents, wife, Mae Riggs and brothers, Richard and Floyd Riggs, preceded him in death.
Services will be at 7:00 pm on Wednesday, January 3, 2018 in the Danville United Methodist Church with visitation from 4:00 pm until the service time in the church. Services in Evansville will be at 2:30 pm on Thursday, January 4, 2018 in the Blue Grass United Methodist Church with burial to follow in the Blue Grass Cemetery. Visitation will be from 12:30 pm until the service time in the church. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Danville United Methodist Church Building Fund 820 W Mill St Danville, IN 46122 or to the Blue Grass United Methodist Church Building Fund 14200 Petersburg Rd Evansville, IN 47725. Baker Funeral Home, Danville, is in charge of the arrangements.
