Obituary

Elbert Morris “Sonny” Cobb, 85 of Plainfield, passed away July 12, 2019 at Life’s Journey of Avon.  He was born April 1, 1934 in Eva, Alabama to Elbert Cecil and Carrie Wilson Cobb. His parents, wife, Shirley Dean Clark-Cobb and sister, Martha “Marty” Cobb-Lochard preceded him in death.  He married Antoinette “Toni” (Komlance) Cottongim-Cobb on August 21, 1999 in Plainfield.  Sonny graduated from Howe High School and began his career working at his father’s restaurant, Hoosier Pete in Indianapolis.  After owning several other restaurants, he co-founded Waffle House of Indiana.  He retired in 2001 as Chairman of the Board for SunQuest Systems, Inc.  In 1995 he was inducted into the Restaurant Association Hall-of-Fame.  Sonny was a member of the Murat Shrine Horse Patrol, Armadillo Flats Radio Club and St. Susanna Catholic Church.

Survivors include his wife, Toni Cobb of Plainfield; children, Ron Cobb (Michelle) of Greenfield, Terri Cobb of Plainfield, Randy Cobb (Stephanie) of Mooresville, John Cottongim (Denise) of Brownsburg, Ed Cottongim (Phyllis) of Plainfield; grandchildren; Ryan, Kiley, Stephanie, Jonathan, Jimmy, Alicia, Kaci, Evan, Lauren, Morgan, Nick, Johnna, Jeremiah, Mariah, Kreid, great grandchildren; Rowan, Ramsey, Brody, Chase, Holden, Landry, Phoebe, Khloe, Emery, Makayla, Baylee, Wyatt and Carson.

Services will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, July 19, 2019 at St. Susanna Catholic Church, Plainfield, with burial to follow in Maple Hill Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 4:00-8:00 pm on Thursday, July 18, 2019 in the church and also one hour prior to the service.  In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Susanna Catholic Church 1210 E Main St Plainfield, IN  46168, American Cancer Society 5635 W 96th St Ste 100 Indianapolis, IN  46278, or the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society at donate.lls.org
